Last major training before the mini is this weekend

I will be doing some heavy cardio this morning, with some weight training mixed in. Then tomorrow is the last long run (15 miles) before the Mini-Marathon on 4-30. That gives me two weeks to work out any soreness that may develop. Only light training after tomorrow until the race, a sub 2:30 is hopefully in my future. Last year’s time was 2:40, but this year the toughest part of the race (Iroquois Park and its hills) was removed with the course changes.

Spring Time Yeah!!

I just cut the grass on Friday last week and it is already past due to cut it again. I am not a big fan of the ‘April Showers’ thing. I prefer the fall as the grass starts dying and the temperature gets down into 60′s with regularity. Great running weather without that pesky yard work.

Three races done, only the half marathon (13.1 miles) left to do this spring. I will be running in the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini-Marathon April 30th with 15000 of my closest friends.

It is hard to believe that I turn FIFTY on January 30, 2011. I don’t feel any older than when I was in my thirties, way back when. I used to hear all of the old people say this ‘stuff’ years ago and think ‘what a load of crap’, but now that I am the old man in the group I know how true it is. I am simply glad to get to celebrate another year.

Louisville spring races

Spring races in Louisville, KY that I am running.

The Triple Crown of Running http://www.louisvilletriplecrown.com/ starts off with the Anthem 5K http://www.anthem5k.com/ on February 26. The second leg is the Rhodes City Run (10K) http://www.rodescityrun.com/ on March 12, followed by the Papa Johns 10 Miler http://www.papajohns.com/louisville/ on March 26.

The Derby Festival Marathon (Mini-Marathon) http://www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com/ is on April 30 this year. Register ASAP for this one, it has sold out the 15000 spots each of the last few years. It is a great event as are all of these runs.

I am getting ready for the fall race schedule:

1) Pioneer 5K – 9-4-2010

2) Gaslight Festival 5K – 9-14-2010

3) Warrior 4 Miler – 9-25-2010

4) Race for the Cure – 10-9-2010

5) Home for the Innocents Home Run – 10-23-2010

I am upping up the mileage starting this week in preparation. I have been cross training since mid-May, so hopefully I see some PRs in this runs.
